Learners embrace their culture
Maria David
CULTURAL heritage is the backbone of any society, and preserving it for future generations is key. Hence, learners from various schools during the celebration of Namibian Heritage Week ensured that they got their message across through their cultural performances.
The event was officially opened at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region.
Cultural performances are not only about entertaining people but educating and guiding people in the right path.
The learners of Etale Combined School, during their performance, called for the return of old traditional norms, saying that back in the days, traditional herbs were used to cure sickness.
Meanwhile, the learners of Eenhana Primary School reminded people of their existence and where they come from.
Education director Isak Hamatwi indicated that culture is the backbone of life and has been used for years to define many of people's identities.
Hamatwi noted that the celebration kicked off on Monday and will conclude on Friday.
This year, the week is being celebrated under the theme: Heritage and Culture: A "Rock-Solid" Foundation.

CAUTION: The Swakopmund Municipality has issued a warning to its residents, especially road users, to be aware of the powerful winds experienced in the coastal towns. According to the municipality, a strong south to south-westerly wind blew at a speed of 36 kilometres per hour (km/h) on Monday afternoon. This significantly reduced visibility on the roads, prompting a recommendation for road users to exercise responsible driving and stay within safe speed limits.
