Council CEO Minnie Moll highlights the importance of diversity in design. With only 23% of UK designers identifying as female and 88% of design managers as white, inclusivity is lacking. Lack of representation leads to products that exclude and endanger many communities.

Hearing aids are evolving with changing attitudes and technology. A growing number of 20-somethings may need them as they navigate an increasingly noise-soaked world. Experts say more young adults are developing hearing loss, and the market for hearing aids is expanding, with new products being released by traditional brands and technology companies like Sony and Jabra. Sleeker, smaller and Bluetooth-enabled designs, which appeal to young consumers, are becoming increasingly popular. However, the expense of hearing aids, and the difficulties navigating the range of options on the market, remains a barrier for some people.

Deaf and hard of hearing creators are concerned about the spread of incorrect American Sign Language (ASL) on TikTok. Despite the popularity of sign language renditions of songs and the growth of the deaf community on the platform, users are worried about the lasting damage it could have on ASL. By promoting awareness and advocating for proper use of ASL, the deaf community and ASL experts are helping to ensure that this beautiful language is preserved and celebrated.
Sheena Lyles, a deaf TikTok creator, demonstrates the correct sign for words and the incorrect sign being used on TikTok. All videos are from The Washington Post.

Ahoi, a Boston-based app that collects user-generated data on accessibility features at restaurants and other venues, is revolutionizing the way people with disabilities navigate public spaces. Founded by Justin Robinson, Scott Slagsvol, and Jake Haendel, the app uses crowdsourcing to collect accurate and detailed information on accessibility features that existing apps don't provide. The founders have bootstrapped the company, building an app in about nine months and launching it in early 2023. With over 24 million adults having disabilities related to mobility in the US, If it gains widespread adoption it could benefit a tremendous number of people and also help other existing apps like Google Maps to be more inclusive.
