Powerful Breast Cancer Awareness Month video from Ria. ❤️
“There is nothing pretty about breast cancer. There is no beauty in this disease. But instead, you are faced with your own mortality.
During active treatments, our bodies become weak due to chemotherapy and radiation. We lose our breasts. Some lose partial, others lose one, and there are those who lose both. We lose our hair. Most of all, we lose the person we were before cancer.
The mental part of it, excuse my language, is a total mind f*ck. It is heavy. It is an emotional roller coaster.
Using the power of makeup, I show the transition of the glitter pink color transitioning into radiation like burns☢️ To the left, where a needle would be placed to my port for chemotherapy. The missing eyebrow represents hair loss due to chemotherapy treatments.
As we enter Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there will be pink ribbons plastered on products from companies. Before you support, please double check where your money will be going to.”

“July 31: My favorite day of the year🧡It’s my REBIRTHDAY, the anniversary of my life saving double cord blood transplant🥳🎉Today marks 9 years!!
Cancer is so hard. Though I’m still here, which I’m incredibly grateful for, the reality is I struggle on a daily basis with health issues and intrusive thoughts. I still battle chronic kidney disease, high blood pressure, digestion problems and severe head pain. But I look good on the outside so I must be OK, right??
If you know a cancer survivor, be KIND❤️Sometimes, the battle never ends. Cancer has a way of changing your life.
If you are a cancer survivor, it’s OK if you’re not always OK. Just keep kicking ass👊🏼”

“Not all young patients and young adults dealing with physical and mental challenges during their cancer journey have support or community. Joining Count Me In is a part of my advocacy journey. Being a voice for other cancer patients, supporting my community, supporting anyone affected by cancer. Hopefully, being a part of Count Me In will result in more research for my rare cancer.“

“I’m in a lot of Facebook groups for osteosarcoma. Sometimes a parent will join the group and share their child’s recent osteosarcoma diagnosis. I like that I can share “Oh, I’ve had lung mets. I’ve relapsed three times. I’m still able to enjoy life after having this disease for 17 years.”
While scrolling through Facebook one day, I found the Count Me In link for their Osteosarcoma project. I decided to join the research effort. The Count Me In team answered all of my questions and informed me about the active work they were doing to research Osteosarcoma. Now, I’ve sent the Count Me In link to many others in the osteosarcoma community.”

Jena with a #BCAM message!
“FUN FACT, I was 27 years old and five months postpartum with my third daughter when I found my own lump breast feeding.
Another fun fact…. I had no family history or genetic markers for breast cancer.
Did you know that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her life time!?
How insane!
Did you also know that there are different kinds of breast cancer?
AND did you know that triple negative breast cancer, the most aggressive form of breast cancer, has no after treatment medication to help prevent this cancer from recurring?
Craziness.
Remember to check your breasts monthly and remind your loved ones as well. Early detection saves lives.”

Carinnes was diagnosed with Stage II Uterine Cancer after several weeks of self-advocacy for mysterious back pain. After reaching remission, she struggled with neuropathy for a few years. Then, she was diagnosed with Stage II Breast Cancer.
She is a constant advocate for those in the cancer community, encouraging all the women in her life to advocate for their health. Part of her advocacy journey included joining @countmein to help the next person with cancer.
“I Count because I matter. Everyone matters, you are important. And there is always someone out there needing to hear our story.”
Join Carinnes in the @countmein community by visiting JoinCountMeIn.org (link in our bio). Registration is open to anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer living in the US and Canada.

How do you count every cancer experience in research?
Count Me In considered this question when creating their organization. Patients are not numbers, they are individual humans for whom no two cancer journeys are exactly alike.
To learn more about Count Me In, we interviewed three champion employees. Read our interviews at the link in our bio!
