Africa has the opportunity to be the green building capital of the world. 70 percent of Africa's buildings are still to be constructed, with the inverse being true for most of the 'developed' world. The 'Built Environment' has two main focus points: #1 energy consumption used by buildings; and #2 emissions from materials used for construction. According to the South African Department of Energy, most areas in South Africa average more than 2,500 hours of sunshine per year. That's 2.5x the average hours in Europe- a market that has made big strides in installing the majority of the world’s solar power.

There are a number of reasons why Europe owns most of the world’s leading solar power plants, but Holocene is excited for what we can do on our continent. We're helping to build startups that can harness this potential while innovatively addressing the uniqueness of Africa to build a sustainable future for this continent- and the world.

For possibly the first time on the continent, we’ll be showing Wild Life, an amazing film about how the thrill of outdoor adventure in beautiful places inspired Doug Tompkins – the founder of The North Face brand – and his partner Kris to achieve incredible feats in conservation. It’s a National Geographic film, created by Oscar winning producers, about one of the most stunning places in the world- so you know it will be EPIC. 🏆🌍
