I love horror. I love bloody, gory, and disgusting horror. And maybe it's in the definition somewhere that I missed, but I prefer my "extreme" horror without sex. That being said - I really liked this book. The way he wound everything together was near-masterful. And that ending!! Yes, there are some biological liberties taken, but it's fiction. And it's definitely gripping. ;)
