Congrats to Rethread Africa, one of our Global Change Award winners 2023! The innovation turns the abundant waste from sugar and corn production into a biodegradable fiber that can compete with conventional polyester. Congrats to KBCols, one of our Global Change Award winners 2023! This innovation has the potential to shift one of the most critical steps in the entire supply chain – dyeing – and turn it planet positive. KBCols next-generation dyes are derived from living microorganisms, creating biodegradable colours that are non-toxic to aquatic life.
Congrats to DyeRecycle, one of our Global Change Award winners 2023! Making the impossible possible, DyeRecycle recycles colour. It’s done by using green chemistry and fully circular technology to salvage dyes from discarded fabrics – enabling them to be revived and used to dye new fabrics.
Waste pickers rank among the lowest in the social hierarchy in Bengaluru, India. Our initiative Saamuhika Shakti is a holistic ecosystem of ten organisations aiming to equip informal waste pickers in India to lift themselves out of poverty. The repurposing of collected plastic waste has now been turned into buttons that creates an additional social impact and income opportunities.

ALT TEX makes food waste wearable in three steps: it ferments waste into polymers, melts polymers into yarn, and spins yarn into an industrially biodegradable polyester. Best of all? Algreen is a biobased alternative to polyurethane, a resilient but pollutive petrochemical used for adhesives, foams and coatings in functional garments.
