This piece pays homage to my younger brother and our shared love of the Persona games made by Shin Megami Tensei. The blue butterflies represent my favorite poem by Chinese philosopher Zhuangzi, whose words hang heavy throughout the series:

"Once upon a time, I dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was myself. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man."

The poem always struck me as being profound and this is the garment that awakened from it as I reflected on the words and designed 💙

@otaku_ongaku is probably one of my favorite groups to collaborate with. I was commissioned by them to create this Kimono top paired with a Hakama.

Hakama (袴) where inspired by the trousers worn in the Chinese imperial court during the Sui and Tang dynasties, in many ways the Hakama was a predecessor to the kimono we know today. Hakama come in two varieties, the undivided andon bakama, which looks a little like a long pleated skirt, and the divided umanori, which translates to horse-riding hakama, and resembles loose-fitting pants.

Over time the place of the hakama in Japanese society shifted. Today men are more likely to wear hakama under their kimono on formal and informal occasions, while women typically only wear the garment for graduation ceremonies and when performing traditional Japanese sports like aikido and kendo.

This #cosplay piece was created for the character Jin from #samuraichamploo 💙 The other pieces shown are of the character Fuu and Mugen which are pieces I previously made for the band 💙

This is from a virtual #NYFW presentation I did in collaboration with a shoe designer who I was a close collaborator with at the time. Entitled "The Lost Collection," this collection unfortunately was never returned after the shoot.

This collection was based on my love of Yukatas and the luxury of silk Kimonos. I reimagined these pieces for a Western audience and played with the idea of a wrap dress which was popularized in the West by Diane Von Furstenberg.

This collection was a departure from my previous ones and was a growth period for me since this ten look collection was completed within 8 days. It was a design sprint that resulted in a sultry collection meant to keep you cool during those hot summer days 💙

As I am looking towards my next collection, I am reflecting back on "Therapy Revisited" and all of my muses who helped to bring this collection to life.
