You don’t realize until traveling back to Africa as an African American how healing it is.
One thing that always bothered me growing up is I could not trace the exact country where I originated from, but being on that African soil you still feel a sense of connection.
On my trip to Kenya, I visited with the Maasai Tribe, and it was the best and most memorable experience.
The Maasai are the most well-known African ethnic groups whose traditions and lifestyle have mostly remained unchanged despite the modernization around them.
I got to spend the day with them immersing myself in their traditions, every day activities, and learning about their connection with nature. They use nature for everything from medicine to tooth brushes nothing goes to waste.
It was a humbling and a needed experience. Although we might not have spoken the same language, there was an instant connection I felt being in the motherland learning about living history.
It’s something I’ll always cherish.

Did you know Hells Gate National park was the inspiration behind the lion king?
Riding through you can see why and spot the landmarks illustrated in the movie.
As you ride you will see all types of wild animals like zebra on the side of the road steps away, giraffe, antelope, gizelles, impala, hyenas, baboons etc....
The scenery is beautiful and it's an experience I will never forget.
Don't worry there are no predators in the park and it's the only park you can ride bikes through.
I took us roughly 2.5 hours to do the whole thing which is quicker than it usually takes according to my guide (to set expectations)
