Traditional gardening methods expect gardeners to cut back perennials in the Fall / Winter. We do not recommend this as the leftover plant material is used by wildlife for cover and food. Rabbits will eat stems and birds will eat seeds. As a bonus, they stalks provide 24/7/365 interest. My personal favorite is right after a snowfall when the seed heads are covered with snowy fluff!
