‘Are They Black?’ is a dark comedy that follows dinner hosts, Claire and Andrew, as they shuffle to survive a night with a group of unique dinner guests. As the night unfolds, tensions rise as the guests explore topics of police brutality, classism, racism, and identity. The film confronts the antiquated idea that black people are a monolith, by challenging the definition of ‘blackness’ and ‘the black gaze’. While the “absurdist” film refuses to develop in terms of plot, each guest brings their unique perspective to the table, leading to unexpected conflicts and revelations. The emotional pain drives a wedge between the characters as they inadvertently agree to disagree by the end of the film. The guests come to terms with the reality that regardless of their convictions life continues.
‘Are They Black?’ is a thoughtful and thought-provoking exploration of some of the most pressing social issues of our time, all told with a darkly comedic twist.

Maya invites her girlfriend Jasmine round for Sunday Dinner to meet her family. Only problem is they are a lot to handle and she is worried they will scare her off. She calls on Grandma to help keep everyone in line.
