A message from Ruba Karadsheh, Director, Gift of Life International in Jordan. "Back in 2017, Nouralain, a 2-year-old girl from Yemen, was received into a mission in Amman-Jordan. Upon arrival, she appeared very ill, blue, unable to walk and almost lifeless. She was diagnosed with a combination of heart abnormalities. Nouralain was very sick to be helped in one life-saving surgery, so her case required several surgeries separated into phases. When she turned four, Nouralain received the final heart surgery that healed her heart. Nevertheless, Nouralain was still unable to walk. After a lot of doctor visits and many hours, I watched Nouralain walk her first steps with the boots with eyes full of tears. She later started to walk fast, run and in 2021 she graduated from kindergarten in Yemen. She’s now enrolled in elementary school. Every child deserves a better chance in life. This is Albana Krasniqi, a director of Gift of Life International, and a valued ambassador in our mission to end the needless suffering caused by congenital heart disease. Today, she is sharing a story of hope about Lis, a 9-year-old boy from Kosovo who has faced challenges in his life that would be difficult for any of us to endure. 🌍 Lis was diagnosed with a complex heart defect that required life-saving surgery. Thankfully, Gift of Life International was able to get him the surgery and care he needed because of the support of our global partners and donors like you. Lis had to relearn to walk after the surgery, but you can tell just by looking at him, that nothing, not even his inability to walk, would slow him down. Today he is happy, healthy, and thriving. We've arrived in Ukraine!
🌍Dr. Kevin Shannon from @giftoflifeinternational have been traveling to El Salvador with a surgical team once a year to perform heart procedures called ablations. Children receive these procedures to eliminate a common abnormal heart rhythm - Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT), affecting 1 in 200 children.👶❤️This arrhythmia can prevent children from leading normal lives. This is 5 year old Jermaine and his mother. Jermaine was born in Jamaica 🇯🇲 with a heart defect and has been living with a pacemaker since he was a newborn. But as he grew he needed a new pacemaker to keep up with his growing heart. This week, we have training teams in three continents healing little hearts across the globe. 🌍❤️‍🩹 We are working in partnership with Chain of Hope to heal hearts in Jamaica through Catheterization procedures. We are working in partnership with Dr. Craig Sable from National Children’s Hospital to provide Rheumatic Heart Disease training while healing hearts in Uganda. We are also conducting the first-ever Gift of Life training visit to Guyana this week where our team is providing open-heart surgeries to children in need.
