Day 2 in Venice was so much fun!
We happened to be there for Mother’s Day and I told my husband and kids that all I wanted was a day when I didn’t have to decide where to go or navigate GPS 😂
And honestly, I couldn't have imagined a better day!
🔹Murano
🔹Burano
🔹Gondola Ride from Piazza San Marco
Dinner: Trattoria dai Fioi
Gelato: Gelateria Gallonetto

Our first day in Venice was spent finding filming locations from Spider-Man: Far From Home
📍Rialto Bridge
📍Piazza San Marco
📍Santa Maria Formosa Bell Tower
The rest of the day we enjoyed wandering the streets of Venice.
I had heard mixed reviews about this city - some people loved it, some didn’t think it was worth the visit. Add me to the list of people who loved it. 😊
Venice is beautiful. Water everywhere, old buildings, bridges… it’s just so charming.
Yes, there were crowds, but we found that they were generally concentrated in the more touristy spots of the city. Walk a few blocks in any direction to find empty streets and lots of space to roam.
How do you feel about Venice?

When deciding what activities we're going to do when traveling, there are a lot of factors to consider - the destination, the weather, your budget, the likes/dislikes of those you're traveling with...
I also try to think about it from this point of view: If we don't do __________, will we regret it?
There are so many places in the world that I want to see and so many things I want to do. While I would love to go back to Venice someday, I don't know if it'll happen. And even though the gondola ride was expensive, I think I would have regretted not doing it.
So we did it and enjoyed every minute. ✨
Here are the details:
📍 Piazza San Marco
👛 85 Euro x 2 (max 5 passengers per boat so needed 2 boats for our family of 7)
🕗 Approx 30 mins
Prices are a bit lower before 7pm, it just fit our schedule better to go in the evening.
The water was high and we had to lean the boat to the side to clear a couple of the bridges, but the sunset ride through the canals was so relaxing and peaceful. And I'm grateful we got to experience it together. ❤️

If you only do one thing in Milan, do this.
Seeing Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic masterpiece, The Last Supper, was an experience that left me truly speechless.
The Last Supper depicts the passover meal Jesus shared with his disciples before his arrest and crucifixion. Da Vinci masterfully captured the reaction of each subject as they respond to Jesus’ news of his impending betrayal, making the scene come to life.
The work itself remains intact on the very wall on which it was created over 500 years ago. The painting has survived multiple restoration attempts that did more harm than good, a flood, even a WWII bombing that left it exposed to the elements for months.
Today, the Last Supper is carefully protected with temperature and humidity control and limited visitor access. As tickets are limited, they must be purchased in advance. In fact, we were only able to get tickets by booking a tour through @GetYourGuide , and I’m so glad we did.
Not only did we get to see this historical treasure, our walking tour took us to the center of Milan, exploring the history of the city and its landmarks along the way. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, making this experience my favorite of our 2 months in Europe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Day one in Milan was a great reminder that there are things about travel you just can't control.
Like the weather! ☔
Despite the rain, we had a really good day.
🔹Duomo Museum
🔹Meatball Family
🔹Gusto 17 for gelato
And a good night sleep 🙌
Follow for Day 2 - one of my FAVORITE days of our entire 2 months in Europe 😄

Nothing says "Italy Vacation" quite like daily gelato. And it might have been more for me than for the kids. 🤷🏻♀️😅
Here are our favorites!
Carol: Pistachio
Ray: Mango
Luke: Strawberry
Josiah: Strawberry
Judah: Lemon
Zoe: Chocolate
Adina: Nutella
What's your favorite flavor of gelato?

I’m so glad we said yes to feeding the pigeons in Milan!
It was quite the experience! Surprisingly, no one got pooped on.😅
I love these moments in life that are completely unplanned and unexpected. They end up being the most fun, memorable experience.
Would you do this?

We might not have a future in futbol, but we had fun. 😅
And that's what travel is all about, right? Getting out there and trying something new.
Would you take on the Robokeeper? ⚽

Our favorite eats in Florence - Save this video for your next trip! 🇮🇹
📍All'Antico Vinaio - incredible focaccia sandwiches
📍Venchi gelato e cioccolato - topped our gelato with our choice of a milk chocolate or dark chocolate coin
📍Pizza Napoli - is there such a thing as too much pizza? we don't think so
📍Edoardo il gelato biologico - some unique flavors in addition to our favorites

We spent 2 days in Florence, Italy with our 5 kids and they were packed!
Here’s our top 10 list of things to do in Florence:
1. Climb Brunelleschi Dome (463 steps 😱)
2. Baptistry of St. John
3. Climb Giotto’s Bell Tower (414 steps 😅)
4. Opera del Duomo Museum
5. Ponte Vecchio
6. Galleria degli Uffizi
7. Galleria del’Accademia (Michelangelo’s David)
8. Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore
9. Crypt of Santa Reparata
10. Boboli Gardens
Florence was like nothing I've ever seen. Such a charming city with a warm, welcoming feel. I understand why people love it so much.
I was struck by the green, pink and white marble facade of the cathedral and surrounding buildings, and of course the brick dome. The views from the top were breathtaking.
I also loved how walkable Florence was. We didn't use public transportation at all here.
I'd love to go back someday and have time to just relax and enjoy it.
Have you been to Florence? What did you love about it?

Looking for ways to beat the Phoenix heat with your kids this summer?
We needed to get out of the house recently, so we loaded up the van and my teenager drove us to @bassproshops in Glendale, AZ. Would you believe we've lived here for 10 years and have never been?!
Most of my kids are admittedly a little old for Bass Pro now, but it was close, air conditioned and something we'd never seen before, so it fit the bill.
The animals were cool to look at and we enjoyed the aquarium, especially the turtle. It was fun browsing the toy section and touching all the stuffies.
All in all, it was a successful outing. The QT slushies on the way home didn't hurt either. 😉
Have you taken your kids to Bass Pro?

One of the best parts of our trip to Rome was the food!
Here are a few of our favorites:
📍TreCaffe Bistro - Their croissants were so delicious. With fillings like vanilla cream, pistachio cream, Nutella and chocolate, you can't go wrong here
📍Mizio's Street Food - I don't know about you, but I get super stressed about ordering food for all 7 of us in a foreign country. Some of my kids are pretty picky. The woman who helped us at Mizio's was so sweet and patient, making sure everything was just right. And the sandwiches were 🤤
📍Mus Caffe - If I could have a croissant and espresso for breakfast every day of my life, I'd be so happy. Mus had my favorite pistachio croissant, and their muffins were excellent as well.
📍Borghiciana Pastificio - Our award for best pasta goes to Borghiciana Pastificio. This restaurant is tiny, but the staff was so gracious in accommodating all 7 of us. We had cacio e pepe, bolognese, lasagna... everything was so fresh and tasty.
📍Cantina e Cucina - Our first meal in Rome and of course we had to have pizza. What really made this place stand out was the staff. They were so warm and friendly and even jumped in for a photo with us. 😁
📍The Baker of Sardinia - This was a recommendation from our friend Francesco, who we met in London, and it did not disappoint. We ordered a couple boards of meats & cheeses, mac & cheese bites, different breads, and everything was delicious.
📍Gelateria Fassi - Gelato was dinner on this particular evening. 🤷🏻♀️😂 It was excellent. We all got large cones (3 different flavors? Yes, please!) topped with fresh whipped cream.
Are you hungry yet? 😉
Which one of these places would you be most excited to try?

Such a beautiful day in Rome!
Day 2 of our 3-day Rome itinerary began with the Colosseum. The metro was so crowded, we couldn't even get on to the platform!
The first Sunday of the month (FREE day 💃🏻) had everyone in converging on the Colosseum as soon as it opened. We had a 2.5 hour wait, and it was definitely worth it, but had we gone later in the day, the line would likely have been much shorter. When we left the Colosseum there was no line at all. 🤷🏻♀️ #liveandlearn
We also explored the Baths of Caracalla, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We sent the kids on a mission to take photos of each other, allowing Ray and I to wander on our own and enjoy these incredible ruins. #parentingwin
