With October's theme of fears and nightmares, we found After the Fall to be a fitting book for this month's feature. Everyone knows the story of Humpty Dumpty, but what about after his fall? Here's a #TakeMeBackTuesday on our Camp Good Grief that happened two weeks ago. Erin's House was so happy to have this opportunity to hold this camp for our kiddos!
August is about getting back into the rhythm of things, with school starting and routines coming back in full swing. Erin's House wants to introduce this book called Hello, Anger! This book is about students at Sunnyvale Elementary school who carry all kinds of feelings throughout the day. However, on a particular day at school, a bunch of kiddos experiences anger, and even the teacher expresses concern. So to talk about what was going on, they had discussions about the different emotions individuals feel and some solutions that can be made.

After experiencing a death, kids and teens might have the expectation of returning to school being “back to normal”. This can lead to a multitude of mental health problems for students.

🐍 Slithering Snake | Healing Heart ActivitySlithering Snake is a fun activity kiddos did this month to help them understand their grief. The goal is to show them that sometimes our emotions can come slithering in sneaky ways like snakes. The kiddos then shared about how grief has snuck up on them or what happens if you blow too hard with the water bottle and how is that like grief?There are a few steps to make this activity work at home:1. Cut out the bottom of a water bottle.2. Slide a sock over the opening on the bottom of the bottle and secure with duct tape.3. Mix dish soap with water.4. Lastly, dip the sock in the soap and use the mouth opening to gently blow to make the snake.

Our program year has officially wrapped up 😢 For our end-of-program ceremony, the kids and teens were invited to write messages to their person on special paper that dissolves when added to bubbles. Then, as a family, they blew bubbles into the air carrying their messages to their person who died. It was a beautiful reminder that memories still live on 💜 #grief #griefjourney #memories #griefsupport
