⬇️ If you have one day in the town, here’s what you could do:
- Grab breakfast at the Country Cafe just outside of town
- Walk beside trenches and take a hike though Bolivar Heights Battlefield, one of the most important Civil War battlefields in West Virginia
- Park your car and head into Harpers Ferry National Historical Park using the shuttle bus from the Visitor’s Center
- Check out the museums and exhibits such as John Brown’s Fort or the Confectionery
- Hike the Maryland Heights Trail for the best view of town (6.5 mile, loop)
- Climb the 1810 stone steps up to the Jefferson Rock, where Thomas Jefferson once said, “this scene is worth a voyage across the Atlantic”
- Go tubing or zip lining with @Harpersferryadventurecenter

At 9.4 miles and with a rating of very strenuous, it takes an average of 7.5 hours to complete. Experienced hikers can expect it might take about 4–6 hours if there isn’t a lot of traffic on the trail.
🚩IMPORTANT: From March 1 - November 30, visitors to Old Rag Mountain need a day-use ticket, which can be reserved online in advance on @recreation_gov. You’ll also need to pay for entry into the Park. Find out more information on @shenandoahnps’ website.
Be sure to enjoy the outdoors responsibly and leave no trace. Stay on the trail and be prepared to carry out all trash.
