On Saturday August 26th from 11 am to 1 pm firefighters will show off their newly remodeled station along with providing tours of the apparatus, fire safety activities and even a free hot dog lunch. Just after 9 p.m. last night firefighters responded to a vegetation fire at the Red Shack trailhead on Highway 49 just north of Placerville. Firefighters made quick work of the 1/10 acre fire. CAL FIRE and Diamond Springs - El Dorado Fire also responded. Did you know that our firefighters are trained for response to confined space rescues? Today Engine 17 from Pollock Pines and Placerville's Engine 25 and Medic 25 trained with Medic 49 and Diamond Springs - El Dorado's Engine 349 and Rescue 49 on confines space entries. These types of rescues are necessary when people become trapped or incapacitated within confined areas. This type of response requires specialized training and equipment above and beyond what is necessary on normal fire engines. #confinedspacerescue #eldofire #eldoradocounty #firefighters
El Dorado County Fire Protection District firefighters were happy to participate in National Night Out activities throughout the county on Tuesday. National Night Out is an opportunity for neighborhoods to build safer communities through partnerships with law enforcement and first responders.

Did you know that we recertify all of our fire engine pumps annually? This testing is conducted by our own firefighters and assures that each fire engine is pumping to a certified capacity. This Type 3 fire engine, commonly used for wildland fires, is certified to pump 500 gallons per minute (GPM).
You might have noticed that this engine has different colors and decals than our other engines. This is because it belongs to the Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and is available for use in our communities while being staffed with our own personnel. When state emergencies occur, this unit can be called to provide mutual aid where help is needed.

Firefighters have begun operational orientations between @eldofire and Diamond Springs - El Dorado Fire. this will allow for shared staffing between both agencies as we head into fire season. Shared staffing helps to build in resilience for both agencies and enhances operational capability.

One of our HRTs assisted California Highway Patrol H-20 with training Placer County Fire/CAL FIRE's technical rescue team members on helicopter hoist operations on Friday.
HRTs are Helicopter Rescue Technicians who join CHP flight crews and perform hoist based operations to assist on rescue missions.

This week, several personnel from El Dorado County Fire participated in a joint training with CHP - Valley Division Air Operations. Once they have completed the entire curriculum, these individuals will be certified HRTs (Helicopter Rescue Technicians). As HRTs, they may be flown into remote areas and inserted by long line (or a landing, if space allows) to render medical care, or to conduct reconnaissance, rescue, and recovery operations. Kudos to these individuals for stepping into yet another demanding role.
Having HRTs to assist CHP in this rescue mission will reduce the time it traditionally takes to access some patients and assure they are extracted safely. Our communities are rich with remote wilderness areas that regularly present challenges to our responders. Firefighters from Engine 72 in Cool joined in a training hosted by El Dorado Search and Rescue for Animal Technical Rescue yesterday, May 12 at Bacchi Ranch in Lotus, CA. The training objective was to work on airlifts of large animals in emergency situations utilizing horse models/mannequins – NO live horses were used in this training. This training exercise is meant to simulate extreme rescues that would only be implemented in life-or-death situations of the animal involved. Participants included: EDSAR Animal Technical Rescue Team, Sac Metro Fire Air Operations, UC Davis VERT, El Dorado County Animal Services, El Dorado County Fire Services, Rescue Fire Dept, CalFire, Loomis Basin Equine Hospital, ResQFast, and the Halter Project.

Diamond Springs - El Dorado Fire Protection District Engine 49 and El Dorado County Fire Protection District Engine 25 and Medic 25 took advantage of the beautiful weather and practiced flat roof vertical ventilation on an acquired structure today. This training is critical to make sure that firefighters are prepared and experienced to perform these tasks on real fires. This building is being demolished by the owners and we are glad that they allowed our firefighters the opportunity to hone their skills before it is torn down.
