Here is my scoby or pellicle, it’s huge. I’m going to put it into a scoby hotel to store the excess. You guys were telling me that the darker scobies were older ones and the whiter ones were newer growth, top it off with extra kombucha liquid and I store it in my closet and give it to a friend who wants to try making their own kombucha. I’ll put the newer scoby back into the kombucha to ferment it!

Day 3 of making snacks for my kids using produce that will go bad soon. The star ingredients are these soft nectarines. I got a whole bag on sale because they are not perfect, but nothing goes to waste in this house. Not only are we using sliced nectarines, but we are using nectarine puree too. This will replace eggs and it will let me use less oil too. By buying some produce in the imperfect section I’m actually diverting it from going into landfill. This also lets me be very creative, and the kids don’t have to eat the same snack every week. For the first time making it turned out really nice. Flipp it over and it’s topped with these soft nectarines. The bread itself was really moist. Not bad for something made with discarded food waste. It really has the perfect amount of sweetness and the cake is pretty spongy too even if it doesn’t have eggs.

Ever found yourself with a watermelon that's just not up to par? Instead of tossing it, here's my refreshing solution: freeze it! Then, transform it into a homemade watermelon slushie that'll take you right back to those childhood cravings – with a healthier twist! 🌈
The Process:
Freeze the Rescue Watermelon: Lay out those soft watermelon chunks on a baking sheet and let the freezer work its magic. 🙌
Blend to Perfection: Once frozen solid, toss them into a high-performance blender. No need to add anything else – this slushie's all about pure, natural goodness.
Blend Until Slushy: Blend away until you reach that slushy consistency that's just as satisfying as the ones from the corner store, minus all the artificial colors and extra ingredients!
The Flavor:
What I love most is its naturally lemony and sweet taste, without needing to add any extra sugar. It's a burst of summer in every sip, and it's guilt-free!

#greenscreenvideo Three years ago, I embarked on a journey to transform our backyard, and what a journey it's been! I decided to remove our traditional lawn and replace it with a more eco-friendly alternative.
Why, you ask? Well, I wanted to reduce water usage and eliminate the need for constant mowing. Plus, I've always been a nature lover, and this felt like a small way I could give back to our planet.
At first, convincing my husband was quite the challenge, but today, he'll tell you he loves our new setup even more than a traditional lawn! It's amazing how time can change perspectives.
Our garden mainly consists of stone crops and creeping jenny, generously gifted by some of our wonderful neighbors. Their support and contributions have truly made this project special.
So, here's the big question: Would you consider ditching the traditional lawn for a more eco-friendly garden like ours? Let me know your thoughts and any tips you might have for fellow nature enthusiasts!

You know those moments when you spot overripe fruits and veggies in my kitchen? Well, I'm not bothered by them one bit. In fact, I embrace them! Why? Because I'm on a mission to reduce food waste and make the most of every ingredient I have.
Overripe fruits and veggies are like hidden gems waiting to be transformed. I use them to whip up delicious snacks, smoothies, and baked goods, ensuring that none of them go to waste.
Not only does this practice help minimize food waste, but it also reminds me of the importance of appreciating the full lifecycle of our produce. After all, overripe avocados make a yummy chocolate cake.
So, to all the haters out there who might be upset at my "less-than-perfect" ingredients, fear not! I'm on a flavorful and sustainable journey, one overripe fruit and veggie at a time.
Let's all celebrate the beauty of embracing imperfections and making the world a little greener in the process. #ReduceFoodWaste #EmbraceImperfections #SustainableLiving #lesstrash #lowwaste

Last time my kombucha didn't fizz. It could be because it's too sour and I let it ferment too long in the 1st fermentation. A follower suggested I add sugar. Sugar is essential to form carbonation, but if it’s too sour after the 1st fermentation it may not work. It's been a few week now will it fizz? There are some bubbles I consider that a success

If you’re a student and looking for little ways to reduce waste for the planet here are things you can do.
Pack your own lunch this helps reduce a lot of single use plastics and you can make healthier choices too.
Taking the bus to school reduces carbon emission we have an electric REM which is a 100 percent light metro that can carry 600 passengers at a time
And if you are open to it a reusable pads, period underwear and menstrual cups helps save a lot of money while reducing waste too

Don’t throw out the seeds and gut of a honey dew, let's make something refreshing to drink. I read that honeydew seeds are high in minerals like calcium, potassium and iron. I placed all the ingredients in my Almond Cow, but you can use a blender and strain it. Since I’m Canadian I’m adding some maple syrup but you don’t need to. It’s white it kind of looks like milk, but it doesn’t feel heavy. It tastes like a melon flavored lemonade and I'm happy I can use the seeds.
1 slice of lemon with skin on
Seeds and guts of 1 melon
1 liter of water or less.
Maple syrup optional

A follower asked if using the white part of the watermelons was a Mauritian thing, but it’s actually a me thing. My channel is all about thinking outside the box to help reduce all sorts of waste including food waste. Here are some things you can make with watermelon rinds. I like to use them because they are neutral in taste and they kind of taste like cucumbers
I made a jam using watermelon rinds, an apple and chia seeds. .
I added watermelon rinds to my Mauritian ashard recipe, which is our equivalent to Kim Chi. It is savory and slightly sour.
My mom made pickles out of watermelon rinds which also includes apples and carrots.

It’s secondhand september. I absolutely love dresses and I want to show you 2 second hand dresses I got this year which were not perfect but I love. I got this pink one which fit me everywhere but the straps were too long. I saw a lot of potential, so my mom fixed it perfectly.
Next one is this floral green dress. I couldn’t really try it on in the changing room because the straps were completely off. I knew I could fix that myself very easily. It is gorgeous and now one of my favorite summer pieces.

Let it ferment till it tastes sweet and sour like kombucha! That took about 2 week which is only the 1st fermentation. Now we are preparing for the second fermentation by adding some fruit. The fruit has natural sugars to help feed the bacteria. These swig top bottles are especially made for fermentation, but I find old kombucha bottles work also. I let that ferment for another 2-3 days and it becomes fizzy!

This is corn silk. It looks like hair, some of you were saying that drinking corn silk tea is actually good for you. I’ve never tried it before so let’s try it together. I’m not sure what the black part is so I’m cutting it off. Did you know that each silk needs to be pollinated in order to make 1 kernel. Do I need to wash it first? I don’t know but I saved the water for my garden. I read that corn silk tea is great for bladder infections and good for people with high blood pressure or diabetes. It tastes more earthy and nutty than corn water. I prefer corn water so I’ll be saving this for my cooking.

Apparently I was told last time I made popcorn salt, so let's make popcorn. I made it by blending dried oregano and salt in a high performance blender and it became a powdery substance which makes it great for warm snacks like popcorn and fries because it melts really well into the food!
