Intentional jealousy is when one partner intentionally uses jealousy as a tool to achieve something or control the partner. They may also be trying to gauge their partner's level of commitment based on their response.

In an ethically non-monogamous relationship, you may be encountering intentional jealousy if you notice that your partner is doing the following to provoke a specific reaction or behavior from you:

❗ Excessive bragging about their romantic interactions

❗ Frequent concealment of interactions with others

❗ Deliberate attempts to create competition or insecurity within the relationship

When you observe these signs, it's essential to address the issue directly with your partner.

Ethical non-monogamy is about respecting each other's autonomy and choices, and the use of intentional jealousy to manipulate or control your partner contradicts these principles.

Additionally, the partner who is attempting to evoke the jealousy likely is struggling with unresolved internal insecurities that, if worked through, could help to reduce this behavior.
