Play is serious business! It's the work not only of childhood but any creative. I learned this deeply after working as a play therapist for 25 years - including music, art and poetry therapy. The children taught me to return to what I had forgotten. Play is the preparation for all mature soul work. Children are not immature adults, adults are atrophied children. I don't mean childish, I mean the childlike qualities of wonder, awe, mystery and spontaneity are what we are lacking that children have in abundance!! "When you let go over everything. Everything supports you." This quote, another burning ember for me, is never far away from my meditation and breathwork. It's so powerful and expresses the truth of how life is a river we must release into instead of some task to conquer or problem to solve. Everything is so deeply interconnected it's mind boggling AND heart opening. May you have a moment today (even if it's just before sleep) where you release and let go of everything you are carrying - and take a deep breath and see how it 'feels' in your body...

So often we go to people or books for wisdom, when the most powerful wisdom has always come from life and nature itself. The way light arrives in the early hours over a still lake, or the tenacity of all creatures great and small finding joy in bird songs and foraging for their next meal. Often, we must the Veil of Tears to fall - that is be broken up - usually by great suffering or great love to see the world as it actually is - a miracle of awesome sheer being...May you find the miracle of your own precious breath and life in this moment...trust your tears they will always take you home to your soul. Listen for the birds at the end singing with my flute! Can you hear it?? Sedona...who doesn't love Sedona? This was a few years ago visiting my dear friend and fellow musician, artist and wilderness guide Peter Sterling. Peter is a magical harpist and took me to some of his favorite places - including playing on this cliff to the birds and spirits of this place. Last year in Costa Rica in the Mistico Park Arenal Hanging Bridges saw such amazing wild life (sloths, toucans, snakes, etc.) but the tree's I saw touched me deeply - like ancient monks watching over the land providing shelter, food and presence - playing them a serenade on my ancient Mayan bird whistle with a new ambient beat from my new up and coming album. "Land on your dreams as lightly as a butterfly on a flower." Someone shared this with me many years ago - a dear friend and I'm not able to find who the quote may be attributed too - but it has become another one of my burning embers. It has been such powerful wisdom and similar to be who you are on the way to becoming who you maybe. It is realizing there are other powers and forces at work besides our own limited desires - and yet - when we can see our surface desires actually are hints to our deepest desires and dreams of the soul and of the larger world we are but part of - we can be patient and wait for the right time and place for our gifts and the worlds deep needs to dove tail and join each other as if in a delicious dance. Follow your dreams AND hold them lightly - and do what needs to be done today. The paradox of being and dreaming has never been more powerful, urgent and needed than today in this crazy wild world of ours. Don't lose hope, don't give up AND take just one breath and step at a time while fully being here now.

Sorin Oak in Austin, Tesas is one of the oldest tree's in Texas - presumed to be between 250-300+ year old and has been so resilient it has survived both a tornado and fire. It's diameter is 67.5 feet and a crown diameter of 82 feet, and it even has its own Facebook page.

It's a powerful and beautiful reminder that we will all run into the fires and storms that threaten to destroy us, and yet when we grow our roots deep and reach for the sky - we find our resilience from within to stretch without with all of who we are.

I’ve been playing synthesizers for 40+ years now. When I played my first Moog at the age of 18 - I played for hours as it took me to that place I remember from my near death experience at 7. (For more on that story watch My Story on YouTube) It remains the place I go for creating the drone like sound beds for my flutes, piano and other paints I use on the canvas of my sound paintings.
