Many of us in the healing arts have our personal healing journies. While our lived experience is important, it's also important that we don't lean to heavily on our own stories. As a scientist, I always look at the data and rely on that more than my own story.
My personal story and the data do converge! I have always known that nutrition helped me with my personal recovery from addiction and anxiety. And guess what? The literature supports it.

Reward-related processes work with the memory system (mostly in the hippocampus) to assign value to substances, behaviors, and experiences that are rewarding (dopamine). This is designed to promote survivial, but when the brain assigns value (salience) to substances, behaviors, and experiences that are not survivial-promoting (drugs), addiction can become the outcome.

Ultra-processed food addiction is a public health problem. There, I said it. Inattentiveness and impulsivity are on the rise. We need policy-level solutions.
Any ideas? What can we do? Extreme dieting is obviosuly not the solution.

I learned in statistics that models help us make predictions, but the models themselves are never right. They are just models. In the nutrition space, we have so many different models. People that think their model is right and that other models are wrong live in delusion and in a cycle of bias.
My experience is that bringing together the wisdom of #intuitiveeating #mindfuleating #foodaddiction #nutritionformentalhealth #guthealth #functionalmedicine is the way to really make a difference!
