🦷Teething Relief🦷

Gently rub or massage the gums with your fingers. You can also use a cool spoon. Switch from the spoon once teeth erupt to avoid damage to the erupting teeth.

Keep the child’s face dry and wipe often with a cloth to remove excess saliva/drool.

Cool feels best. Depending on the age of your child, you can give chilled foods, chilled teethers, or a cold, damp cloth.
✨For teethers, avoid ones filled with liquid or made of plastic and check what the teether is made out of.
✨Make baby friendly popsicles. Avoid adding sugar which can be detrimental to the erupting teeth.
✨You can also use a mesh feeder to allow babies to chew on foods, preferably chilled. Try freezing breastmilk in an ice cube tray, taking out the ice cubes and mashing them up a bit, then letting the baby have it in a mesh feeder.

If you’re nursing, you can drink chamomile tea which can have soothing benefits for babies.

Continue to gently brush the area twice a day to reduce the chance of secondary gingivitis or gum inflammation due to plaque accumulation.

If symptoms continue to worsen and/or interfere with sleep or feeding, check with your medical provider.

❌Avoid teething necklaces and teething anesthetic gels. These can be toxic to infants. ❌

5 Ways to Promote Oral Health

1. Drink water.
When you drink water, it helps rinse your mouth of leftover food and helps rebalance your pH.

2. Breathe through your nose.
Nasal breathing is important to humidify the air, filter the air, increase nitric oxide, maintain your CO2 tolerance, and for oral health.

3. Spend time in the sun.
Vitamin D is essential for strong teeth and bones because it helps with calcium absorption.

4. Chew xylitol gum.
When you chew gum, you stimulate saliva flow to help re-establish a good balance in your mouth. Xylitol has also shown to reduce the risk of cavities.
