⭐️Miles Circuit⭐️

This can be used at the end of pregnancy to help baby get into an optimal position and during labor if labor stalls.

💜The Miles Circuit is a series of 3 exercises with a goal of each being performed for 30 minutes (so 90 minutes total) that was developed by a doula named Megan Miles.👏🏼

▶️You can start by performing each exercise for 10 minutes and gradually work your way up to 30 minutes. Always listening to your body and stop when needed.

1️⃣Exercise
#1 : Open Knee Chest

This position encourages pelvic floor relaxation and relaxation of the uterine ligaments. Get onto all fours and lower down onto elbows. You want your butt up in the air as high as possible. You can use pillows around you to help with proper positioning and ability to maintain that position. If your partner is around, a rebozo can be helpful to be able to maintain this position. Afterwards, come to a kneeling position for a couple minutes to let everything re-set.

2️⃣Exercise #2 : Exaggerated Left Side lying

This position encourages opening up the pelvis. Lie down on your left side in bed and bring your right knee/hip up to a 90 degree angle. Elevate the right leg on pillows so your knee is higher than your hip. Hang out here for 10-30 minutes.

3️⃣Exercise #3 : Moving and lunges

Take a walk outside with one foot on the curb and the other on the street. Spend at least 30 minutes doing this one as well to give your baby a chance to move down. If you are lunging or stair or curb walking, you should lunge/walk/go up stairs in the direction that feels better to you. The key with the lunge is that the toes of the higher leg and mom’s belly button should be at right angles. Do not lunge over your knee, that closes the pelvis.
Don’t forget the silly wiggle at the end 💃🏼

⭐️ HAND EXPRESSING & COLOSTRUM HARVESTING⭐️

It’s SUCH a valuable tool for all
#nursing #mamas to learn!

Hand expressing breast milk can be used to:
* Increase supply
* Reduce engorgement
* Remove clogged ducts
* Get milk flowing to entice baby
* Collect extra hindmilk at the end of a nursing or pumping session
* Take the place of a full nursing/pumping session, if done properly
* And even work MORE effectively than a breast pump for some mamas

⭐️ What’s most important is to realize when #handexpressing is that you don’t simply squeeze the nipple! This is a surprisingly common misconception! It’s all about stimulating and compressing the milk ducts just outside of the areola.
👉Which makes sense if you stop and think about it, right? If baby has a good #latch , they’re not just taking the nipple into their mouth, but the whole (or at least most) of the areola!👈

⭐️Mamas are encouraged to hand express and collect #colostrum in their final weeks of pregnancy. Most recommend starting the practice of colostrum harvesting around 37th week of #pregnancy .

⭐️Colostrum contains the perfect balance of fat, proteins, and nutrients for human babies, it contains very high levels of antibodies to help develop baby’s immune system, and it even works as a laxative to help baby pass their #meconium poops.

⭐️Colostrum is the liquid that your body produces before your mature #breastmilk comes in sometime between days 2 and 5 after birth.

⭐️Colostrum is best kept in the back of the fridge for 2-4 days. You can add colostrum from a few days worth of hand expression sessions and freeze larger amounts together

⭐️You can aim to do #handexpression 2-3 times per day

👉Because there is a slight risk of hand expression causing the spontaneous start of #labor , it’s not recommended for women that are at risk for preterm labor. This is also why you should wait until #37weeks to practice hand expression👈

⭐️Some mothers won’t produce much colostrum prior to their baby’s #birth , but others are able to collect quite a bit! This does NOT reflect your liklihood to succeed at #breastfeeding – so don’t stress if you aren’t able to harvest colostrum during #pregnancy !
How to use a CUB seat in early or established labor 🤗

I provide one for my doula clients to utilize at home early labor. Kaiser is also the only hospital in the area who provides moms with one during labor and I LOVEEE it!

We all know the upright positions can make labor shorter, helps us birth much easier, as well as reduces the risks of common complications during birth caused by restricting natural movement.
It’s a modern innovation of the traditional birth stool and birthing ball. It’s designed to provide all of the advantages of an active labor, well supporting a variety of positions for giving birth it helps you feel supported facilitating mobility, comfort, and relaxation during pregnancy, labor, and birth.

Kneeling, squatting, all fours, as well as sitting, are all easily and comfortably achieved with a Cub.

The CUB can be used throughout early labor as a comfortable support, either to sit on, rest on or lean over as well as to give birth on. 🎉

If you don’t have one of these you can use pillows, sofas/chairs, cushions, steps, yoga mats and blocks’ use what’s around you and improvise! It’s worth it!
