I’ve been following Oliver Tree for some time now, and the more I see him, the more I think that he perfectly understands the new music market, managing to join it without compromising his artistic identity. As silly as he may seem at a first glance, Oliver Tree creates lyrics that perfectly adhere to the common feeling of this new generation - not at all cheerful and carefree - while maintaining the apparent light-heartedness and ingenuity typical of its age. He certainly didn't invent this, given the recent virality of Paramore's Hard Times and the entire hyperpop genre – whose overproduced vocal line to the point of seeming unreal is also taken up by Oliver Tree – without even considering groups from previous generations such as The Smiths. However, Oliver is one of the current artists who best identify this trend. If we add also a well-thought nostalgia effect, well, I’m not surprised that tracks like Life Goes On or Miss You are hits today
