Today we took the train from Cobh to Glounthaune and strolled along the Greenway to Harpers Island Wetlands- a haven for wildlife with a wide variety of habitats. Its on our doorstep and why not get there by train and stroll the couple if minutes from the station! Funded by Cork County Council we commissioned craftsman Tony Heaney t_cast_metal_work to craft replica metal decorations for the bandstand in the Promenade as the previous ones had rusted off the poles. He created a mold and made perfect replacements which our volunteers painted up and reattached to complete the refurbishment of the bandstand which began during the summer. Cobh Garden of Reflection- When you visit the garden you will see many inspirational quotes set amongst the flowers – you’ll see one from the Bible but you’ll see others from Kurt Cobain, Martin Luther King Jr., Charlie Mackesy, Helen Keller, Robin Williams, Emma Donoghue and many more.
The one with particular relevance to this project is one from Fred Rogers:

After weeks of waiting for the grass to grow sufficiently, we are delighted to announce that the gate to the green area opposite St Colman’s Cathedral is once again open. In a short ceremony Bishop Crean unveiled a sign to the Cobh Garden of Reflection and the assembled guests followed him through the gate as the bells of St Colman’s Cathedral rang out courtesy of carilloneur Adrian Gebruers. The Cobh Garden of Reflection is a Cobh Tidy Towns initiative in association with Cobh Parish. The enhancements to the area invite us to reflect, rest and remember the Covid 19 pandemic.
