Industrial fishing is the largest culprit of the irresponsible mismanagement of these nets, and though very unfortunate, these are common finds along Hawai’i coastlines.
After being discarded out at sea, with a mix of wind, swell, and tide, they find their way to our shores, entangle wildlife, and/or break apart into smaller and smaller pieces over time contributing to the seemingly endless pollution of plastic in the ocean.
So, how can we hold industrial fishing companies responsible for these nets and/or prevent them from being used in the first place?
