The Citizens’ Assembly on Biodiversity Loss met this week and heard from representatives of farming and rural organisations.
The organisations outlined how Irish farms operate and how farmers are adapting to change by diversifying, planting private forestry, and incorporating new technologies into their work to reduce damage to the environment.
We asked a few of the 100 citizens on the Assembly to describe the process in three words.

#CADubMayor is concluding its final meeting at #Dublin Castle this afternoon. Citizens are voting on a range of issues including the extent of the Directly Elected Mayor’s powers; the role of and fundraising capacity of the Mayor; the election of the mayor and the role of local councillors; and the local government structures to support and work alongside the new mayor.
A full report and recommendations from the Dublin Assembly will then be prepared over the coming months ahead of being sent to the Oireachtas for consideration.
Our chair, Jim Gavin, gives a big thank you to everyone involved.

The 🌏 is watching. We are the 1st citizens’ assembly ever to focus specifically on biodiversity loss and our discussions and recommendations will likely be noted by environmental groups everywhere as a potential model to confront the challenge of biodiversity decline.
And we need your help!
There is still time to submit your views on biodiversity loss ahead of the Citizens’ Assembly on Biodiversity Loss’ intensive autumn programme!
