I found everything I needed to do a really cool reaction between copper (II) chloride and aluminum at the hardware store! The copper chloride is made through a double displacement reaction that occurs between solutions of copper (II) sulfate, found in tree root killer, and calcium chloride, a common salt used to melt ice in wintertime. The reaction between copper chloride and aluminum generates hydrogen gas, which is very flammable!
