Today is the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington. Amanda LaRoche, the North Carolina State Coordinator for FEC’s Campus Vote Project, explains how we cant forget Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s declaration of the “fierce urgency of now,” in his iconic “I Have A Dream” speech. His calls for equity and justice are just as important today as attacks on voting rights continue to ramp up.

Did you know Congress is considering a law right now that could drastically impact your right to vote? Although there are plenty of national impacts of the bill, the American Confidence in Elections (ACE) Act would also completely overhaul elections in DC, which supporters of the bill hope will serve as a model for anti-voting rights legislation across the country. Changes would include:
-Requiring a photo ID to vote in-person and by mail
-Banning same-day voter registration
-Restrictions to drop off boxes
-Banning universal mail in voting
-Mandating signature verification for mail-in ballots
-Directing election officials to only count mail-in ballots that are received before the polls close on Election Day
-Requiring audits after every election
