This week, we bid a fond farewell to our “Lady Liberty!” 🗽

The thirty-foot “Replica of the Statue of Liberty” that has been on display near the Sculpture Garden behind the museum since 2006 will be making the journey to her new home at the National Building Arts Center (NBAC) in St. Louis.

We spoke with Valerie Hegarty about her work, “Fallen Bierstadt,” which is on view as part of the Museum Spotlight: Changing Landscapes in the American Art galleries. Hegarty and the other artists featured in this installation of works from our collection capture and respond to the dramatic transformations of the North American landscape—due to pollution, oppression, and natural disasters—over the last 200 years.

Celebrating the Brooklyn way! 🥂

We’re still reliving last night’s #BkArtistsBall where we had the chance to honor the vision and legacy of Carrie Mae Weems. We owe immense gratitude to Mickalene Thomas for collaborating with Dior to reimagine our Beaux-Arts Court with one-of-a-kind backdrops, table settings and decor inspired by Weems’s series Slow Fade to Black (2010), which highlights Black women in popular culture.

Thank you to Celeste, Swizz Beatz, and DJ Runna for setting immaculate vibes and to Shaniqwa Jarvis for creating a photo booth for us to immortalize the evening made possible by Dior.

#ICYMI , our Conservators and Art Handlers recently worked together to rotate a nineteenth century painted elk hide that needed to undergo color readings for a Tlingit blanket in the American Art galleries.
