I’m very aware that as a white woman I have no authority to say anything about “authenticity” of the reaction of a character of color so my reaction might be more stemming from that this portrayal is MORE authentic than what is traditionally done where the story and character are wrapped up in a nice neat bow at the end. This book didn’t have that feeling and I think that’s what my gut reacted to. But teenagers don’t learn life leasons perfectly in one try so why should Jasmine? I strive to always be learning and growing so thank you for staying with while I process in the video and in this caption!
