🌋 NEW VOLCANO IN ICELAND 🌋
After a week of earthquakes felt in Reykjavik, a 3rd volcano has erupted on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Here’s everything you need to know 👇🏼
This volcano is considered a tourist volcano, meaning no explosive eruptions or toxic ash is produced. It can be visited by a 20km hike. The start of the hike is 30 minutes from Reykjavik or 20 minutes from the Keflavik International airport.
What to bring on the hike:
Layers of clothes
Hiking boots
Gas mask, found at any hardware store
Water
Food
Charged cell phone
No children
The eruption site is dangerous and new fissures could open at any moment with no notice. Please be cautious and do not wander from the eruption.
The wind directions and temperatures can change rapidly and unpredictably, so having layers and a gas mask is very important.
DO NOT walk on the cooled lava, the rock is brittle and there is hot magma underneath. In addition, beware that the crater walls can also collapse at any moment so do not stand too close to the crater.
