Flaring event currently happening from Westlake Chemical in Sulphur, Louisiana. #SWLA is home to 3 separate Westlake facilities, and this one reached a settlement with the DOJ last year after decades of flaring events like this.

Today's explosion and fire at Calcasieu Refinery, coupled with an ongoing fire in Cameron at the Fulton Generating station, should wake us all up. Accidents happen - way too frequently in SWLA. Some corporations and government officials think this place is just a sacrifice zone. We are not a sacrifice zone.
There is absolutely no need to place any additional fossil fuel export facilities in our area. We can't afford to let these robberbaron companies extract any more beauty from this place, for any reason, but definitely not in the name of short-term profits.
