Sometimes the best cure there is, is love. As soon as the oncologist saw that the cancer had spread to Billie’s gums, he said that there was no point in treating him now because it would just come back. Essentially, the doctor said his treatment would make him suffer for nothing. So, we’ve decided to love bomb him. We have told him that he has a home with us for the rest of his life - no matter how long that may be. Maybe the best cure to all things, in the end, is love. If you donated towards his care, we wish to thank you. Your donations will be put towards many of our other projects that we have to prevent animals from suffering. Had the cancer not spread to his gums, we would have gone ahead with the treatment for him. We are grateful to the oncologist for his honesty and best advice. Billie will receive love and shelter for the rest of his life. Pixie update! I really in love with this little girl. As soon as Dr. Miguel saw her, he got his phone out to start recording her, he was so taken by her cuteness! Pixie is teeny and walks like a wind-up toy. She’s super bendy too, and we are currently hunting for a diagnosis. Little Miss Pixie here is the cutest little girl you’re ever likely to meet. She certainly doesn’t fit into the normal kitten category. As she’s grown, we’ve noticed a difference between her and her siblings. We are running tests to see what she may have going on. Dr. Miguel thinks it’s either congenital hypothyroidism or Mucopolysaccharidoses, a very rare condition that causes dwarfism among other things. I’m hoping it’s the former, because congenital hypothyroidism is easier to treat. In the coming days, we hope to know more. Pixie and her siblings will be up for adoption. Meet Billie, a handsome and noble boy. My heart broke when I was sent his photo and I knew I had to help. Billie has aggressive squamous cell carcinoma attacking his face. Dr. Miguel said operating on this is too risky and that Billie will need radio-immunotherapy fast. There are only two cities in Mexico where we can find this treatment and they are 4 - 6 hours away respectively. This will not be easy for us, but Billie wants to live. And he deserves to. We will also need to provide plastic surgery for him once the treatment is over. I have not yet had a rescue with this issue, but I fulfill my promise to every animal who comes to us: to do my utmost to help alleviate their suffering, whatever that may be. Bowie Update!!! Ok, so sometimes things don’t go as planned. Bowie has bonded so deeply with Sophie that I can’t separate them. My father has bonded so deeply with Sophie and Bowie that he has effectively stolen them. That’s ok. He tells me they help lift his spirits, and with my mother in decline from Dementia, he needs some light. So, I’ve decided to let both Sophie and Bowie stay with him and eventually, when my father isn’t here anymore, I will integrate the two cats with mine: bringing the total to SEVEN. Eventually we will live in a bigger space and will be able to integrate two more cats. What’s two more cats anyway?!?! I firmly believe cats are the best medicine and these two work their magic on my dad daily.

On Saturday I saw Balam peeing with his butt down so I knew something was wrong. He was going from one litter tray to another peeing with his butt down. I had to head out to my sterilization campaign but Ian and Aluna headed to the vet immediately with him. Luckily, the vet found nothing serious and thought that most likely he was dehydrated from the extreme heat and that he had not been drinking enough fluids to compensate. He was given antibiotics and an anti inflammatory injection and immediately seemed better for it. He was not happy being told he has to go on a diet. Panda is the most grateful rescue I’ve met so far. When you see how she was living, you can see why. Many people simply do not know how to treat or handle animals here. It breaks my heart. Panda came to us in the worst condition I have seen. She had matted fur, she had maggots in her rear end, she had roundworms, she was severely malnourished and dehydrated. She had ulcers all around her behind from dragging herself against concrete. Apparently the paralysis came after being attacked by a dog. I’m fed up of this storyline. So many of our rescues come to us because they’ve been attacked by dogs. I don’t blame dogs, I blame irresponsible humans. Panda is so happy to be with us. But her healing journey is going to be a long one. So far, she has been hospitalized for a few days locally, just to stabilize her. I will take her to Dr. Miguel who will take x-rays and help her heal the ulcers. She will be sent to Mexico City (4 hours from here) for an MRI. Panda will require surgery, and a wheelchair. We want to give her the dignity she deserves. We will do everything possible to make her comfortable for the rest of her life.
