Today in West Palm Beach, FL, International President John Costa surprised attendees at a Shop Steward training that included Stewards from Local 1577-West Palm Beach, FL, and Local 1267-Fort Lauderdale, FL. Costa thanked the attendees for their leadership, commitment, and dedication to our Locals. He led a lively discussion with the attendees and talked about his experiences as a Shop Steward for Local 819-Newark, NJ. He also discussed the most recent attack on labor unions in the state, Senate Bill 256, and how our union is doing everything we can to fight it.
Throughout the training, stewards learned critical skills for their positions, including the role of Shop Stewards in their Locals, their responsibilities, grievance handling and procedures, leadership and communications skills, and more.
Local 1577 President Dwight Mattingly and Vice President Joey Acevedo then took Costa for a tour of the Palm Tran facility as well as at the West Palm Beach Intermodal Station, where he met with operators and members in the maintenance department to hear about their issues on the job and how the union can help them. It was a great day meeting with members at their training and on the job. Thank you to our Florida Locals for everything you do!

On day two of their strike, our Local 689 Loudoun County Transit workers walked out of contract negotiations after Keolis put an insulting last, best, and final contract offer on the table and the company refused to set new bargaining dates. Our members went back to the picket line with a renewed strength to stay united until they get a fair and just contract. #ATUStrongerTogether #1u #STRIKE #OneDayLongerOneDayStronger #UnionStrong
