I’ve always loved reading fantasy about women—yes, the shieldmaidens and the sorceresses, but also the mothers, sisters, daughters, wives.
Lárega once lived a simple life with her adoptive dwarven parents, hunting by day and eventually having a baby. But when her son was cursed by an elven sorcerer and then stolen from her, she transformed.
Now, she hunts monsters—not to slay them, but to save them. She breaks curses. She fights dark magic. But through all that, she is, at heart, a mother searching for her son and hoping to return to the simple life she once had. That is something I can relate to, and it’s why I wrote this story.
