The responsibility of being a healer means that I am a leader who lives by example, so being a Reiki Healer particularly gave me the courage to stand up and be counted.
Also, HUGE shout out to White Snake Projects (the company in Boston I’m currently working for, singing a world premiere) for creating a safe space from the jump.
I didn’t have to go too far out of my comfort zone to advocate for my mental health needs in this production, and that’s because of the intentional advocacy of this company and their desire to create trauma-informed and neurodiverse environments.
Not a single thing that I’ve said or advocated for has been met with flack, judgement, or retaliation from any member of the cast, creative team, or administration. On the contrary, every single person the company hired has been incredibly supportive.
10/10 would recommend working with this company if you’re looking for a safe working environment.
The rest of the opera industry could take a page from their playbook.
