20 years ago I had a fight with my former girlfriend which inspired me to make my first (and last) animation short film.
Last week I came back from a 20 day meditation retreat (with 10-16 hours of meditation per day) and I can confirm my brain works still the same way as in the film #handdrawn #animationshort #shortanimation #boxer #shadowboxing #fight #argument #relationship #pencildrawing #mindfulness #insightmeditation

For a week we had harsh working conditions. Dust storms destroying half of our camp, 40+ degree Celsius (105 F), and only a pump sprayer as a shower. I worked before on huge snow sculptures, but while snow melts in the warm hut, the dust stayed in some of my gear even now when writing this on my way back to Berlin.
Maybe because of all this, it was especially wonderful to see when this 10 tons (20k pounds) metal beam slowly came together and people started descending from it with emotional highs. Usually people completely underestimating the mental challenge as the ascend doesn’t look that scary from below, but the fear quickly grows on you when the unique construction starts to wobble with each of your steps.
To me this project combines three things I love: Aesthetics, movement, and pushing through mental discomfort. Together they spiral you intensely into the present moment.
Created by artist @Benjamin Langholz and engineer Amihay Gonen.
