Sometimes those sneaky, judgmental voices still creep in. Last night, after dinner, I needed a snack.
"You already ate, you don't need more food."
"Eating before bed isn't good for you."
"Do you really need that?"
Girl, bye. I got up and got a snack.
Because my dinner was on the light side and I was kinda hungry.
I've gotten really good at pulling in my positive, supportive food voices. They offer non-judgmental awareness, gentle nutrition and body respect guidance, and compassion.

First off, let me be clear. There is nothing wrong with snacking.
But sometimes it can be frustrating. I love me some food, but I don't really want to be eating and grazing all day. It just doesn't make me feel good!
So here's 4 things to be on the lookout for if you can't seem to keep your hands out of your snack drawer.
1️⃣ Are you actually eating enough food at meals? Diet culture has its fearing fullness. But getting full is actually a good thing!
2️⃣ Are your meals well rounded? Protein, fat, and fiber contribute to satiety the most. If I'm getting hungry earlier than I'd like, it's usually a sign I didn't have enough fat in my meal.
3️⃣ You've identified you are not actually hungry, but you've made it a habit to stop by the pantry between meetings.
4️⃣ You're using food to avoid uncomfortable feels. It's a great distraction from boredom, or that work project you've been putting off.

I remember when I would do a round of Whole30 and literally have dreams of pizza. 🍕
Ya know why?
🧠 Because your brain isn't down with restriction. And if it fears that it isn't going to get something, it kicks up cravings. Like literally causing you to dream of that very thing.
🙅🏼♀️ So instead of writing off carbs entirely, figure out what it is that your body might be needing.
🤔 Do you need more food?
🤔 Do you need a more balanced diet?
🤔 Do you need variety?
🤔 Do you need sleep?
🤔 Do you need to work on your mental health?
Cravings are a clue, not a crisis.
