(HOLD TO READ!) Hoopers, tired of not being confident on the court?

Try these 5 things:

-Visualize being successful: Visualization is powerful. Before you step on the court for a practice or game, visualize yourself being successful in every movement (shooting, defense, dribbling, etc).

-Set attainable goals: There is a difference between a dream and a goal. How will you make your dream happen? By one attainable goal at a time.

-Practice, practice, practice: You gotta get your reps in. Ive never heard of a basketball player that was confident in taking the shot or driving to the hoop only having practiced a couple times. If you know you have made that shot a thousand times, you will have a new level of confidence.

-Stop comparing yourself to others: This never does anybody good. By doing this, you take the focus off of what you are skilled at and takes away your confidence. Focus in on your lane and work as hard as you can.

-Can’t fear failure!: PSA, you are going to fail! The players who aren’t afraid of this part of the process grow quickly and play with a high level of confidence. They don’t allow failure to bother them!

Which one will you work on?

Let me tell you a story⬇️

There once was a young girl who wanted to badly to play college basketball. She watched so many collegiate players on TV and she knew that would be her someday.

She loved the game with all her heart. πŸ€ But she soon learned that MANY other girls had the same dream as hers.

She soon learned that she had to make herself different in the way that she prepared to make her dream a reality.

Someone really important in her life gave her advice one night after a bad game she would never forget: It’s not about the things you do that everyone sees, it’s about the hours you put in behind the scenes that will set you apart.

She learned a valuable lesson that day.

Most of the time we see the ending result of many hours of solid work of the great players. I’m not talking about playing games. I’m talking grind it out hours on your own in the gym getting reps up, conditioning, eating well, taking care of your grades, etc.

You gotta WORK for your dreams.

β€œLet me play through my mistakes!” 😩

Has this ever been you?

I’ve been there and it really stinks. Getting pulled for EVERY mistake you make. Here is the reality. We all will make mistakes on the court. It’s part of the process.

Here is what I learned ⬇️

I can’t control how my coach chooses to coach me but I can control how I react by my attitude and mindset. I quickly learned that my coach gave me a super short leash and pulled me for every mistake so I had to have a short memory. When I dwelled on my mistakes, my confidence was shot down and my mindset went bad. Then I became afraid to make mistakes which led to more mistakes made. It was definitely frustrating but if I wanted to play I had to combat my situation.

When I learned to have a short memory, I could move forward and not dwell on the past. I had keep my mind in the moment so I could stay mentally strong for my future performance.

If this is happening to you, try to change how you handle the situation. Stay in the moment and don’t dwell on what just happened.

Great players have strong mindsets.
