As we approach Yom Kippur, The Alliance & @Alyssa Goldwater are proud to partner and highlight the connection between religious fasting and eating disorders. While fasting is part of some religious practices, it's crucial to remember that individuals who are struggling/recovering from eating disorders may face unique experiences and challenges during these times. If you are observing Yom Kippur, we wish you a very meaningful holiday. G’mar chatima tovah.

Hey All! This is @Nia Marie , also @thefriendineverwanted on Instagram, here today to talk about why it’s so important to uplift and celebrate Disability Pride Month during the month of July!
Disabled people are often overlooked, sometimes portrayed as less than human, and frequently disrespected by people and systems of oppression in the world. We can fight back against the oppression of disabled people every day, but if we do not implement activities that support and humanize disabled humans, we are not doing nearly enough work.
Let’s also talk about how fat people who are disabled are so often blamed for their disabilities or medical conditions when none of it is, in fact, their fault. The harm done to fat, disabled people, and disabled people in general by the medical systems in place can, in many instances, lead to eating disorders, disordered eating, further medical complications and conditions, and permanent disability.
Systems of body-based oppression are playing with people’s lives freely in the world, and we as human beings need to vocalize our disagreement and support of disabled people.
So this month, uplift the content of disabled creators, support your disabled friends, family, and community members, and make waves in support of disability-benefitting legislation.
Thanks for stopping by! I would love to hear what you learned today that was new and impactful for you! Please drop a note in the comments!
