Sorry I disappeared for a bit... Sometimes, as a carer, you forget that you need to care for yourself too, and I haven't been getting that balance right. The past few months for me have been about redefining boundaries. No matter how hard that is. It's easy to feel helpless in the world right now, but some things are within your circle of influence. I forgot that & it's taken some tough decisions to allow me to find my path again.
Is everything rosey? No, but at least I have a plan and a way forward. I have some amazing plans for us next year, and now I feel in a better position to deliver them. Don't forget to take the time to focus on yourself, even if it's just a walk or sweeping in the garden.
On the bright side, you'll have 4 months of Cloudy Adventures to catch up on, as well as finding out what I'm going to be up to next year. Thanks to everyone for your messages/texts checking in. Apologies, I haven't got back to you all but will do so over the next week or so ❤️

I thought I'd share this as from the outside looking in.. You may think everything is perfect. Social media allows you to see a brief snippet but this is reality.
Home life plus work means my garden has been neglected & I guess I have neglected myself a little too. This weekend, I have tried to change that by accomplishing a few small wins in the garden.
It seemed overwhelming at first but I've been down this road before. I know myself enough to know.. I just need to start.
Hopefully, I can work on my garden a bit more now that my schedule is lighter & I'll be able to get the clarity I need to navigate the home life with a clearer mind.
If anyone else is going through it atm.. find some quick wins. You got this 🤙🏾

@recycle4gm provided the compost for my RHS Tatton Park Show Feature Garden. It was important to me to look for a sustainable solution. The compost is made from food & garden waste across Manchester and turned into compost in about 6 weeks.
However, it's really important that we separate our recycling properly as it could lead to plastics and other materials polluting batches leading to more waste.

Lighting & spaces to socialize in the garden were key elements of the design that didn't have much of a focus at Tatton but now that the garden has been relocated, if we look beyond the colourful plants & quirky containers.. The seating areas & social elements like the bar are key parts of the garden. This allows residents to meet & socialize with neighbours & plays a part in strengthening bonds within the community. Improving these bonds is vital to avoiding antisocial behaviour and instilling a sense of solidarity & pride in the area.
The lighting will also help us use the space during Winter, as I feel that Winter is a time when we need the garden the most. A lot of thought has gone into this project. Make sure you're following as I'll be sharing more glimpses into the garden as it changes & develops over the next 12 months.

After 3 months of research, 3 weeks building a show garden, 3 days of relocating the garden and 4 days of rebuilding it. Cloudy Alley is now, in its final home in Moss Side.
We closed off the street, had a seed swap, face painting, henna tattoos, kids games and gave tours of Cloudy Alley to local residents & other alleyway gardeners.

Mr Tortellini is an important resident of the alleyway, too! So, it's only right that he had been included in the consultation process. Gemma & Mr Tortellini will be able to harvest fresh food and save money right up until it's time for his winter nap.
Now that we have coldframes and greenhouses, we can grow from seed, and he'll have plenty to eat for years to come.

The response to the garden has been absolutely phenomenal. So much so that I didn't even get to take many videos/photos. I am having to go in early tomorrow morning to take lots of pics and videos. So if are coming to the show, take lots of pics and tag me! I'll make sure to repost 🥰

How amazing would it be if more unused urban spaces like alleyways were transformed into mini pockets of green? The impact to urban biodiversity & mental health within our towns and cities would be tremendous.

This week, I had the pleasure of returning to All Saints' Catholic Primary School to visit the gardening club and see all the hard work the children have put into growing and nurturing the seeds we started a few months ago. They have had some tremendous success! I'll be collecting them all up and adding them to my Ginnel Garden at RHS Tatton Park.
We also headed over to Ashlands Manor Care Centre to check on the progress the residents had made on the seeds we sowed together earlier in Spring. We managed to include some of them whilst planting two new borders for the residents, to help them enjoy their outside space.
